Throughout my digital art career, I have been inspired by so many great digital artists and illustrators. One of the prominent names on that list is Craig Mullins; the godfather of digital painting! He is a renowned digital artist and illustrator who has been creating digital art for over 30 years, and his work has had a significant impact on the development of digital art as a medium. He is also one of my favorite artists and I still find myself drawing inspiration from his magnificent work every once in a while.
Mullins began his career as a traditional artist, studying illustration and painting at the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California. However, he quickly realized the potential of digital art and began experimenting with digital painting techniques in the early days of computer graphics. His matte paintings were considered revolutionary at the time and set the standard for digital matte images in the film.
Mullins continued to push the boundaries of digital art and illustration throughout his career, creating stunning digital paintings and illustrations for clients such as Disney, Warner Bros., and Lucasfilm. He also worked on several high-profile video game projects.
In addition to his professional work, Mullins has also been a vocal advocate for the importance of traditional art skills in digital art. He believes that understanding traditional art techniques, such as composition, color theory, and anatomy, is essential for creating compelling digital art.
I would totally recommend checking out his work so that you can be inspired as well. Here’s the link to his website!
